On May 16th, I had the privilege to attend the Rassemblement Annuel des Futurs CPA (RAFCPA) in Nicolet, a major event for the next generation of Québec's accounting experts. This edition was the perfect occasion to discuss the growing impact of technology in the accounting world, but mostly, to demonstrate how modern tools can transform -and simplify- how the job gets done.
My conference, titled The tech at the service of accountants: the cloud revolution, was meant to demystify the major technology trends that redefine modern accounting practices. The goal? Show that behind big scary terms like « cloud computing », « cybersecurity » or « automation », there's real sound solutions that can help reduce stress and boost efficiency while staying compliant to the strict standards of the industry.
The modern CPA : far more than the master of numbers
One of the key takeaways of my presentation was that the role of a CPA doesnt revolve only around producing financial reports and managing accounts. Today, they also need to handle client relations, regulatory requirements like Bill 25, managing remote working, and of course, get the hang of new digital tools.
Challenges are everywhere: finding the balance between offer and demand, manage ever growing client expectations, dealing with different generational realities, etc. However, these challenges also brought tech evolutions in recent years. Cloud computing, for one, has become the cornerstone of a transformation that allowed unified secured data handling, process automation and a better management of access and privacy concerns to develop.
Dimpo : a response to actual needs
To truly illustrate this change in paradigm, I presented a real case study: the Dimpo platform, co-founded by Nidhal Ben Abdelhamid, experienced CPA and technology passionate. Dimpo came to be during the recent pandemic as a response to quickly digitalize contacts with the clients of an accounting firm, getting documents signed, ensuring secure payments online and managing work documents.
What sets Dimpo ahead of more costy or oversized solutions is it's simplicty to use, its versatility for firms of any size and its capacity to bundle up all the critical functionality in a single portal. TLDR, it's a modern tool box that enables professionals and their clients to enjoy a 100% virtual experience.

Interactive demo : set up a firm in 15 minutes!
Beyond the selling points, I wanted to make people live the experience for themselves. That's why I suggested an interactive demonstration in the room. With their smartphones in hand and their laptops, graduates were challenged to: create a virtual firm on Dimpo, invite a fictive client and send them documents to sign electronically - under 15 minutes.
This exercise allowed participants to see for themseves how fast and simple it is to offer accounting services online. Many were surprised by how fluid the workflow was and how the UI was user-friendly as well as how a tool like this can shape the future of their professional practice. For most, it was an awakening: digital transformation is no longer an abstract concept that exists only in large firms. It's here and now, only a few clicks required.
Be the change
I concluded the presentation by calling the audience to action: be the change. As future CPAs, you will have the power to influence your work environment, recommend the best tools, and mostly, to be proactive with regards to the evolution of your industry. Put the right systems in place, right now, to avoid problems later and ensure your future practice is stress-free and flexible enough to rise up to the challenges of tomorrow.
